Workshop assignment

Boal's idea of invisible theatre is part of a larger system of exercises designed to create a desire for revolution in the actor as well as the spectator. It is a system of subversive acts that aim to make (invisible) systems and structures in society visible. When investigating the ubiquitous but often unnoticed dynamics between urban spaces, performativity and mobile technologies, Boal's exercises are still useful today.

The purpose of this workshop is to create an 'invisible' performance that can make visible the energies between the collective and the individual (the public and the private).
Your assignment is to consider what a piece of invisible theatre looks like in a postmodern, digital culture.

1. Create a concept for a piece of invisible theatre that can be carried out today somewhere in Ã…rhus. Consider the following aspects:

  • Which dynamics do you seek to highlight? / Which awareness do you seek to create?
  • Where does your 'piece' take place and why?
  • How do you expect the spect-actors to react?

2. Present the concept (2 min Pecha Kucha style ) to the class at 2pm.
3. Carry out the concept and document it.
4. Present concept and documentation on a page on the wiki by help of text, pictures, sound and/or video. The presentation should be understandable without any futher explanations. Deadline: March 3rd @4:50 PM.
